I’m currently a second year student at Western University studying Genetics. But honestly, that might change. Again. Last year I was in the Health Studies program! One piece of advice I would give to grade twelves is not to worry too much about the exact program you choose to pursue.
You can almost always change that once you get there, but if you choose the school you love, the rest will come. Also, wherever you are or wherever you choose to go, get involved!! At Western I am part of the Science Soph Team (which is basically insider language for team of Orientation Leaders who cheer about human proteins and lab equipment). I volunteer with Making Waves where I get to spend time in the pool with children with disabilities, I play a few intramural sports, and last year I spent a week teaching English in Nicaragua with Western’s Alternative Spring Break program. Another tip for all MD students – high school goes by MUCH faster than you think. Enjoy it!!
From Mark Saunders to Chris Hadfield, you might be surprised to learn who has come through MD, and where they are now!
