Storytelling with Scratch.
In an effort to spark elementary students’ interest in Computer Science(CS), Google has started the CS First Storytelling Club. This is a month long program where high school students volunteer as both “Gurus”, who teach a group of elementary school kids, and mentors who help struggling students.
The goal is to teach students how to code using MIT’s user friendly program Scratch, where users drag and drop puzzle pieces to understand the basics of logic, which is the heart of Computer Science. Many of MDHS’ students are already a part of this club, which runs from October 27th to November 24th specifically in P.L. Robertson Elementary School. Other schools involved include Sam Sherratt Public School. If you’re looking for volunteer hours and have an interest in computer science, this is a wonderful opportunity!
