On Friday April 15th, the nominees for valedictorian were announced. The senior students are: Catherine Abes, Callum Fisher, Dhruv Gera, and Emily Wesseling. The quartet will give a 1-2 minute speech at the grad breakfast on Thursday April 28th, summarizing why they should be the selected valedictorian to represent the class of 2016.
We asked each candidate what it means to be nominated and a random question (just for laughs). Here’s what they said:
Catherine Abes
“I keep forgetting that I’m nominated. Funny story, I tried nominating Noor, and she turned around and asked if she could nominate me, and now we’re here… It’s cool though… I’ll definitely have something more interesting to say at the grad breakfast”.
What would you like to be remembered for when you die?
“I want to be remembered as a genuinely nice person.”
Callum Fisher
“There’s no words to describe how amazing and phenomenal this feeling feels. It’s unbelievable, marvelous, tremendous, stupendous, and not to mention supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”
If you could invent a weird dance craze what would it be?
“Well, I was nominated for most likely to be in a Beyonce music video… I think it would have to be the ‘C Money Dolly Trolley’. You can only do it if you’re about 4 feet tall. One person is the dolly, and one is the trolley. One person does the worm on their back, and other person does the same thing on their front.”
Dhruv Gera
“It’s a very proud moment for me, I’ve been wanting this for my whole high school career. I was valedictorian for Grade 8, and it’s nice to be nominated again because it’s nostalgic, but it’s a good way to end my high school career.”
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve watched on Netflix?
“I watch like 3 things on Netflix on repeat. I just watched an episode of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ where Ted gets a girl’s phone number by wearing a dress.”
Emily Wesseling
“I am very honoured to be nominated. It would be so cool to represent our grade at graduation. Honestly, I think that all the people that were nominated would be excellent candidates and I’m just excited to see what happens. I think every option is a great one.”
What’s your favourite french word?
“Pomplamoose. Which means grapefruit. I like it because it sounds cool. ”
