“It’s the Principal of the Thing” June 2016

Once again this has been an outstanding year at Milton District High School! Our students have had great success through their efforts in the classroom, in co-curricular activities and in the broader community. We should all be very proud of our Mustang students as they continue to showcase their outstanding abilities and talents.

Our Grade 10 students wrote the provincial Literacy test and over 90% of our students were successful this year. This places MD as leaders in Halton and in the province. Congratulations to our students and to the awesome team of staff who support the many literacy initiatives that enhance our students’ success. Our Advanced Placement students had a very successful year as they wrote exams in four different subject areas to gain advanced standing in university level courses.

Our awesome performing arts team put on a spectacular spring performance of the musical Grease to a soldout crowd all week. A superb season finale at the spring musical concert proved that our Mustangs are indeed very talented. The Spring athletics season had a very high level of participation in soccer, baseball, rugby, mountain biking and track and field. Our Junior boys soccer team won the Halton championship and our Track and Field athletes qualified for OFSAA once again. Way to go Mustangs!

Every year at this time we say goodbye to our graduating class. This is the first graduating class that I had the pleasure of knowing for each of their four years at MD. I want to thank them for the contributions they have made to our school’s history and show appreciation of their excellence, perseverance and dedication in reaching their graduation goal. I am very proud to be the Principal of such a fine school with outstanding young people such as this graduating class.

Nous aimerions aussi souhaiter bonne chance à tous nous étudiants de MD qui commencent un nouveau chapitre de leur vie.  Nous sommes plus que certains que leur formation à MD leur permettra de réussir dans le domaine choisi.

The end of the school year is a time when some of our staff members will be moving on to new chapters in their careers. Mr. Maule, Mr. Schuetz, Mrs. Howes and Mrs. Colling are retiring from education. Their amazing contributions and expertise which they have shared with the MD learning community over the years has been greatly appreciated and their knowledge and experience in helping our students be successful will be deeply missed.  Mrs. Francis, Mrs. Mathews, Ms. Coupe and Ms Lockwood will be moving on to new locations for September. These folks will be missed and we wish them all the best.

As many of you are aware, this year marks the end of my time as Principal at our school. For September, I will be moving on to a new phase in my life as I am retiring. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years at MD as I was able to meet many of you in this wonderful community. I will certainly miss the superb students that you send to Milton District High School and the great staff that support our students. As I ride into the next chapter, I will always have Mustang in me. I feel our school will be in very capable hands as Ms. Rasa Baksys will be moving to MD from White Oaks SS as your Principal. Ms. Baksys will be awesome!

Thank you to all the parents for your support and I wish you and your families all the best.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer!

Kevin Caughlin

Principal
