Empowering the Bystander was an event that took place on October 20, 2016. The event was to draw attention to important topics everyone goes through, especially as teenagers. Molly Burke came to MD for that event, she’s a motivational speaker who talks about her personal struggles. Molly started to became blind at the age of four with a rare retinal disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa. Her message was greatly inspiring for all of us who may be struggling with our lives. Later that day, all the Grade 9’s grouped up and went off to their assigned areas with their Grade 12 leaders. All the students at that event participated in different games to interact with others, befriend each other and get more comfortable. After the games and lunch break, there was another presentation about the programs available at MD. There are many people around us like Molly Burke, she inspires everyone with her story. All the Grade 9’s can take something positive in return from this event and ask for help or return the help when necessary.
