GHAC May 16

BY A. POTOCKI

We had a great first day at GHAC!

Ella Kubas won the open girls’ steeplechase, and Hannah Smith came second, qualifying them both for South Regionals in St Catharines.

Nicholas Loo made it to the finals and finished 6th in the midget boys 100m, which is quite the feat considering what a competitive race it is!

There were a few other top 10 finishes:

McKenzie Spriel came in 9th in midget girls long jump

Claire Smith came in 6th in junior girls javelin

Michael Vietri came in 9th in midget boys 1500m

Everyone exhibited excellent sportsmanship and represented our school extremely well today.  All of the athletes supported and cheered for each other all day, rain or shine.

Milton District High School was also officiating midget girls, junior girls, and senior girls long jump today.  This was a very big job, as there were over 40 athletes in each of these events.  The students were all very helpful, raking and measuring distances whenever we asked them (most of the time we didn’t even have to ask!)

Erin Mercer, Kathy Compton-Morgan, and Sue Black all worked extremely hard running the long jump as well; thank you so much, ladies!
