Well our Cross Country Herd had their first cross country meet of the season yesterday at Churchill Park in Hamilton.

It started off to be a gorgeous but humid day for many of our athletes. Midget Girls, Lauren Bruce, Athena Austen and Emma Girodat had outstanding performances placing 9th,12th, and 14th respectively. They each ran very competitive times for the 4km course.

Our Midget Boys, Hunter Packalen and Asher Khan ran strong races for their first high school cross country meet placing 23rd and 60th respectively out of 117 runners.

Our Junior Girls ran well as a team and displayed Mustang sportsmanship while they helped another athlete who was struggling.The placings were as follows: Kyla Smith (49), Frances Ford (62), McKenzie Spriel (67), Lauren Szczuki (70) and Hailey Chuchmach (77) out of 88 runners.

The Junior Boys ran sub 4 minute kilometers of their 5km course. Jacob Amaral placed 13th and Michael Vietri placed 16th in a field of 110. They both ran competitive races and we look forward to see how these boys can push themselves in their next race.

Our Senior Girls had exceptional races with an interesting ending! Ella Kubas took the lead from the start and held the lead up until when she thought she was going to have 1 more lap, then they directed them to the finishing shoot as the thunder interrupted their race. Ella finished the 3km (supposed to be 5km) with a 10 second lead. Sarah Holman ran a very strong race with the top pack of girls in the race and placed 11th out of the 95 runners.

The thunder and lightning continued so we waited to see if the Senior Boys would have the chance to run and our boys were very eager to run as they had waited all day for this race!

Sure enough, the Senior Boys ran strong races finishing in the top half of the pack, there were 111 competitors. Justin Palmer lead the Mustang Herd placing 15th, Cam Kingsland placing 40th, and Peter Chung placing 68th.

It was a wonderful day with hard work put in by all athletes. Please congratulate them on a very successful first meet.

Oct 17th- pre GHAC at Hilton Falls

Oct 25th- GHAC at Hilton Falls

OFSAA will be Nov 4th in Petawawa.
