When you get to grade 12, you’ll get a pretty good understanding of high school, like what you like, don’t like, and how to deal with it. You might also learn how to deal with stress and enjoy your time in high school. We asked some of our MD seniors to see what advice they would give the MD freshmen! Here’s what some of them had to say:
“Don’t be afraid to speak your mind and don’t stress over things that are unimportant and aren’t worth stressing over!!”
-Zainab Ghori
“Get your volunteer hours as soon as possible! Also don’t procrastinate, even though it seems like the only way out sometimes!”
-Tanisha Ghosal
“Get involved with the school, there are so many opportunities to surround yourself with like-minded people. There’s a club/team for everyone!”
-J.J. Magee
“Go to Wilderness North(!!!), it’s a must do. Join a team or club, get out there and experience as much as you can.”
-K. Dutton
“Take applied math by grade 11.”
-Sonny Corbett and Kat King
“Don’t do obnoxious things in the hall to impress your friends or try to seem cool. It’s annoying. I will tell you to shut up.”

-Ofer Weis
“If you haven’t joined music, do it. It’s the best. If you don’t like music, you’re missing out. So join music because music is amazing.”
-Liam Sy
“It is okay to not know what you want to do with your life. Don’t be stressed or influenced by course selections or dropping courses.”
-Emma Sawatsky
“Don’t forget to have fun and stay in school.”
-Reagan Jacobs
“Get involved in school teams.”
-Dave Bhangal
“Just keep swimming.”
-Dwij Padia
“Do your homework on time.”
-Aliya McNairn
“If you miss due date or test, it’s your responsibility. Teachers aren’t going to chase you down.”
-Nayema Rana
“Crying over bad marks in gr.9 and 10 isn’t worth it. Save your tears for 11 and 12.”
-Hafza Nuh
“Don’t stand in the middle of the halls”
-Hayley Greenhalgh
“Have fun but don’t be loud (muzzle yourself) in the hallways. We are trying to focus on our work because that’s why we even go to school :)”
-Daniel Marchant
“Don’t stress too hard, just try your best! :)”
-Jane Wiebe
“Put yourself out there! Participate in a lot of activities and have fun!”
-Sunjeevani Pujari
“Don’t sweat the small stuff.”
-Hira Shahid
So that’s what some of the MD grade 12s had to say! Plenty of great insight on what is worth stressing out about, what isn’t, and other awesome advice. Also, seems like a lot of us don’t like loud people in the hallways!
