From November 20 to November 23, MD will have an anti bullying week!!
Throughout the week, MDHS will also have an anti bullying pledge wall in the cafeteria. Students can write anything that they pledge to do, like “I will stand up for those who get bullied.”
The pledge wall will be posted throughout the whole week, beside the canteen. Students can write their pledges during the breakfast club, or during periods three and four.

Due to the many reasons as to why people are bullies, MDHS will be dedicating a specific theme for each day of the week
Monday, November 20, will be Transgender Day of Remembrance, so wear PURPLE!
GSA will be putting up posters and doing announcements in the morning. GSA will also be blowing bubbles outside of the school, and giving hugs, buttons and cards! Wear purple on this day to show your support for your transgender friends and family.

Tuesday will be for mental health awareness. Students will wear GREEN, because green ribbons are associated with mental illness. It is so important to bring light to the challenges people face when they struggle with a mental illness, and it doesn’t help when people don’t understand, or take the situation lightly. That is why MDHS will dedicate Tuesday for mental health awareness.
There are so many mental illnesses out there, and many are simply ignorant on the subject. The ignorance leads people to be closed minded and not understand the struggles of one with a mental illness. Some mental illnesses are: schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders. These are just a few of the most common. Many people don’t know much about these, and if you don’t, take some time on this day to learn. We can never really understand another person’s perspective if we don’t know their situation. If you know anyone who struggles with these, take a moment to remind them how much they mean to you.

On Wednesday, wear PINK to speak up against all bullying. So many students are bullied every year for body size, height, skill set, style, income, and much more. And the constant bullying, and taunting can have serious effects. As students, we should help our peers who get bullied. Everyone deserves to be in an environment where they feel safe.
Students Unite will be selling pink, anti bullying bracelets, which will be 1 for $2 or 3 for $5. The bracelets will be sold alongside the pledge wall in the cafeteria!
If you are someone who is getting bullied, know that there are people who care for you, and don’t hesitate to reach out for support.

Embrace your CULTURE by wearing your cultural outfits on Thursday! MDHS is so fortunate to have students from all over the world with their wonderful cultures. We should embrace these cultures and stand up against cultural discrimination and racism. There are so many unique perspectives and voices in this school, which is why it is so necessary to show support for diversity.
What a great way to end the week off before a long weekend!

Teachers can also take 5 minutes, or as long as they desire, with their classes to meditate for mental wellness. The classes can take this time to relax and to promote calmness and a healthy mind.
So MD, let’s unite and show your support by participating in anti bullying week!
