On Wednesday, November 1st, the grade ten instrumental class went to see a performance by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra with another music class from Craig Kielburger. The performance was a musical version of The Firebird, a ballet by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. The actual legend of The Firebird is a classical Slavic tale often told to children. Stravinsky’s ballet combined elements of The Firebird with another folktale he was told growing up, the tale of Koschei the Deathless. The students attending were told the story of a princess and her prince, and the vicious dragon who was put to sleep with the help of the Firebird’s magic. The experience was one the students would never forget.
