On Tuesday February 20th, the Senior Concert Band and Senior Jazz Band travelled to Redeemer University, in Ancaster, to participate in the Golden Horseshoe Music Festival, an annual event where school music groups go to perform. Each group is adjudicated by judges to see if they have the chance to travel to Toronto for Nationals. After performing, an adjudicator helps them improve their pieces in a workshop where they are told which sections they did well on and are instructed on how to improve as a group. Bands that are invited to Nationals have to get a Silver Plus ranking or higher.
Our Senior Concert Band performed three pieces; By the Rivers of Babylon by Ed Huckeby, Ascend by Samuel R. Hazo, and Filum Vitae by Kenley Kristofferson. Senior Jazz Band performed Feeling Good arranged by Roger Holmes, Powder Keg by Jeff Jarvis, and Mulligan Stew by Niehaus. Senior Concert Band received a Silver Plus, while Senior Jazz Band got a Silver. We wish our amazing group of musicians who are going to Nationals, all the best!
