MDHS’s 2019 Stage Production Is…

By Iman Umair-Qaiser

Listen up, thespians! In 2019, after three years of theatrical hiatus, MD will be performing a stage production in 2019, a reimagining of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

The play is one of Shakespeare’s most well-known, and it depicts the story of how the devious Petruchio ‘tames’ the headstrong Katherina into becoming a soft-spoken, obedient wife.

Many have commented how this play selection seems controversial, especially in light of 2018’s #MeToo movement and progressive beliefs; however, MD plans to give the play a happier, more modern makeover. The play will also be set in 1969, an era full of rights movements and social change.

Shakespeare’s plays are also very popular with the Milton community, so be sure to expect a big turnout on opening night. The cast size is a maximum of 20, so sign up to audition today, by signing the forms outside the English office.

Auditions will be held on December 4th and 7th outside the Media Lab, and students will be expected to perform a monologue provided with sign-up.

We can’t wait to see everyone there!
