CBC’s Shakespeare Selfie Challenge

BY IMAN UMAIR-QAISER

Anyone who’s interested in poetry, Shakespeare, current events, or just wants a fun challenge, check out CBC’s annual Shakespeare Selfie Challenge. The challenge is to write a soliloquy or monologue about an event that has happened within the last year in the style of the Bard himself, writing from the viewpoint of a character from one of his plays. This year, YA author Kenneth Oppel is slated to be one of the judges.

Student entries are generally 200-400 words, not including the title. Anyone in grade 7 to 9 and grade 10 to 12 can enter from April 9th to April 30th, 2019.

Prizes include a year’s subscription to OwlCrate, a monthly subscription box from YA literature, and 50 YA novels for the winner’s school.

Check out the link included for more details and some ideas to help kickstart your pieces.

Happy writing, MD!
