Milton District High School Students go for Gold at DECA Internationals

BY ZIAN RAHEEM

The 2019 DECA International Conference took place in Orlando, Florida from April 25th until May 1st. During this period participants practiced their respective case studies in their events and presented their final business modules to experienced judges. Over 215 000 competitors from all across the world including China, Germany, and Guam took part for the final stage of a year long conquest for success. Competitors spent their time attending workshops, practicing for their role plays, and enjoying the warm weather of the Sunshine State.

Students who participate in DECA must choose an event to participate in, such as Hotel Lodge Management, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Personal Finance Literacy, Finance and Operations and many more. The timing for particular events at the DECA International Conference required participants to be dependent on their corresponding categories. The first stage of qualification was at Regionals where members of certain regions compete in one specific area. Competitors who do well at Regionals are eligible to compete at Provincials. Provincials took place in Toronto during the week of February 2nd. Competitors who aced their case at Provincials, had a chance to qualify to Internationals, the biggest stage in the competition.

Milton District High School’s very own Saad Fasihi, Ahmed Abdulrehman, and Jasiya Janjua took their talents to South Beach to have a chance at winning big. This prestigious trio of students worked tirelessly to create the perfect business module during the entire school year, starting from Regionals, then Provincials, and finally Internationals. The trio represented DECA Ontario on the International stage along with hundreds of other students from the province.

Saad Fasihi and Ahmed Abdulrehman placed top five in their category of Finance and Operations, while Jasiya Janjua placed top ten for her category of Sports and Entertainment Marketing.

As a student who wants to pursue a career related to business in the future, Saad Fasihi was very proud of the work he accomplished. “We worked to the best of our abilities from the beginning of the school year to now, we’re happy that we came top five in our category, but we will be aiming to win next year.”

Thanks to DriveWise Milton for their continuous sponsorship and support to Milton District High School’s DECA Chapter.
