On Friday, August 2nd, Halton Region’s former Deputy Chief, Nish Duraiappah, became Peel Region’s Chief of Police. Duraiappah made history, becoming the first South Asian police chief in Ontario.
As some may know, Nish is a former graduate of Milton District High School, bringing the MD alumni Police Chief count to two, with Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders as the first.
Duraiappah has served in law enforcement for close to twenty-five years in a variety of roles, including the Guns & Gangs Unit and the Regional Drug & Morality Bureau. He has also worked with the RCMP Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit and has proved his commitment to ensuring the safety of the regions he works in.
Duraiappah is also committed to Milton’s diverse community as he is on the board of directors at the Milton Bible Church and was a volunteer coach with the Milton Youth Soccer program.
