Orange Shirt Day 2019: A gesture of reconciliation

Niha Sohail •

Students and staff at MD dressed up in orange t-shirts with the words “Every Child Matters” on Monday to honour the Indigenous youth impacted by Canada’s residential school system.

The Social Justice SHSM’s orange t-shirts, seen in the featured photo, were designed by Indigenous artist Chippewar specifically for today’s event at MD.

For those not wearing t-shirts, some students got creative and wore orange bows in their ponytails, and some, matching orange bags!

A big thanks to everyone at MD for participating in this year’s Orange Shirt Day. It is clear that MD does not forget the Indigenous youth victimized by the residential school system.
