Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we celebrate womanhood and the rights of women across the globe. We celebrate women’s achievements, standing up against bias, and taking action for equality.
This Friday, March 6, Milton District High School had the opportunity to attend the 3rd Annual Women’s March on Main Street. We gathered in Town Hall at 10 am in attendance with Town Councillors, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community members.
At Town Hall, Mayor Gordon Krantz shared his Proclamation and the CFUW Milton & District announced this year’s International Women’s Day theme:
#EachForEqual
CFUW Milton & District is a national, non-profit, and non-partisan organization of women who promote the legal and social status of girls and women by raising awareness of female issues related to human rights, social justice, and peace.
Following the speeches, members of MD’s Social Justice SHSM presented a Spoken Word Poem created by Prema Kapoor. Then, outside Town Hall, CFUW raised the International Women’s Day flag to pronounce the start of the march.
Everyone walked together starting from Town Hall, all the way down Main Street, where we chanted and held up our amazing signs, locals encouraging us by showing their support through waving and honking.
The march ended on a high note in front of Milton Mall, where hot chocolate was served in front of Lowe’s for the marchers. It was an empowering event displaying power in unity—if you have the chance then come and join the march next year. You will not be disappointed!
Remember to cherish and support all of the great women around you this International Women’s Day!
