Over the past few weeks at MD, our national anthem has played in different languages. Our school is proud to represent a variety of diverse and beautiful cultures. In a video from CBC News, O Canada has been sung in 11 different languages: English, Spanish, French, Punjabi, Inuktitut, Ukrainian, Mi’kmaq, Mandrain, German, Cree and Italian. In Canada, one in five people speak a language other than English or French at home. The idea of singing the national anthem in many different languages helps members from our communities who come from varying cultural backgrounds feel comfortable and accepted. This version of ‘O Canada’ represents all the beautiful cultures that make up our country. The different languages of Indigenous people of Canada are also included. Check it out here!
