In the last week, the junior and senior badminton players have worked really hard and qualified for the Halton Finals! On Wednesday, April 13th the seniors played at the Velodrome to decide their final seedings and if they got to play in the Finals.

Fortunately for the senior team, the following players qualified for the Halton Finals: Ethan Chew for boys singles, Hadassa Mathivathanan for girls singles, Emily Lendhardt and Hana Felts; Ciara Greig and Ella Korostil for girls doubles and lastly Travis Houle and Palmer Grice for boys doubles.

The junior badminton team headed to Elsie Macgill on Tuesday April 12, to play at the junior tournament which would determine if the team would be able to continue their season and play in the Halton Finals. The tournament started in the morning at around 8:30 a.m. so players came in early and started warming up at around 8:00 am to get themselves ready for the intense games ahead of them.

The Mustangs were up against King’s Christian Collegiate, Georgetown District, and our town rivals the Spartans from Craig Kielsburger. The junior team had two squads which were the A team and B team. For both squads to qualify, each squad needed to win 3 out of the 5 games against the other schools. Milton were up against KCC first and squad A started their games. Milton had an excellent start getting 4 out of 5 games allowing squad A to get their first points in the tournament. Milton’s squad A got at least 3 wins against all schools, allowing them to easily qualify for the Halton Finals.

Squad B had a slow start but they started racking in a good amount of wins at the end which allowed them to beat Georgetown and qualify for the Finals as well! The players had lots of fun and are very excited to play in the finals next week!

Stay tuned for results in the Halton Finals coming up this week! The senior team will be playing on Thursday (April 21st)  and the juniors will be playing on Friday (April 22nd) , so wish them luck!
