The Drama Council is thrilled to announce that MDHS’s spring production of Footloose: The Musical will be opening its doors on May 25th and will continue until May 27th. The cast and crew have been working very hard to showcase the enormous amount of talent at MDHS. With singing, dancing, and everything in between, there is something for everybody to enjoy.
“I chose Footloose: The Musical because over the course of the pandemic I watched so many classic movies from the 80s. Footloose was one of them. I related to the characters, each of them had a trait that I could relate to. I hoped that most of the future cast would relate to the characters too. The musical adaptation of the movie is so near and dear to so many generations that I figured that the audience would also be receptive to the fun filled musical that is Footloose,” says director Delaney Prangley.
Footloose: The Musical follows the story of a teenager named Ren McCormack who moves to the town of Bomont from Chicago. He is in shock when he realizes that they have made dancing illegal. As Ren struggles to fit in, he faces many challenges as he tries to change things. With his new friends Willard Hewitt and Ariel Moore, Ren hopes to loosen up the conservative town.
“Our production of Footloose is special because it’s completely led by students. Our cast and crew enjoy being there, so we put in a lot of effort to make the show as great as possible!” says Zyva Jaffer, the props manager for the show.
After overcoming many challenges due to COVID, we are very grateful for this opportunity to present why the arts are so important to us here at MD.
“No matter the reason, I think people should come see the show! All of our cast and crew members have put a lot of work and time into making this best production possible…With all of the acting, singing, dancing, and amazing tech designs, we would love to have people come see what we’ve done. Coming to watch Footloose is a great way to show some school spirit, watch a live performance, and have a good time with your friends and family!” says Minuki Peiris, who is playing Ren McCormack.
